This 1970 album, Suite 16, finds Yusef Lateef in a transitional phase, synthesizing his jazz roots with soul and R&B influences on the Atlantic label. The album features a prominent role for the harmonica, an instrument Lateef began featuring more extensively in his work during this period.

Yusef Lateef was a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and one of the first jazz musicians to incorporate instruments and philosophies from the East. In 1970, he was exploring new sonic territories, moving beyond bebop and hard bop.
